The European Health Data Space and the region’s workforce crisis will take centre stage at the HIMSS23 European Health Conference and Exhibition.
The healthcare community will gather for HIMSS23 Europe in Lisbon, Portugal, for world-class education and networking from 7-9 June, 2023. Registration is open, with flexible options for healthcare professionals.
HIMSS23 Europe offers curated educational sessions featuring global health thought leaders with a focus on real-world case studies and the latest data and evidence on digital transformation.
Speakers will examine the role technology can play in relieving the current global healthcare workforce crisis. With the World Health Organization estimating a projected shortfall of 10 million health workers by 2030, the attendees will review the potential of digital health to assist in recruitment, reduce clinician burnout, solve training challenges and help deliver more effective care to reduce the volume of patients requiring hands on care.
Educational programming is organized into five tracks:
Presenters on these issues include, Erica White, director of innovation at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust; Dr Suzanne Ozegowski, director-general digitalization and innovation at German Federal Ministry of Health; Dr Harvey Castro, physician and healthcare consultant, and among the first people to publish a book on the hot topic of ChatGPT and healthcare.
The event will also provide an update on pan-European collaborations, including the European Health Data Space and Gravitate Health. Viewed as one of the EU’s most ambitious projects to date, the EHDS will be high on the agenda at HIMSS23 Europe.
While EU lawmakers scrutinise draft proposals for a regulation on the EHDS published by the European Commission in May, healthcare leaders are striving to understand more about the impact and how to prepare.
The conference will explore what EHDS is, what it is not, and the potential benefits for patients and society.
A high-level main agenda session and an interactive roundtable will address latest developments in regulatory landscapes, the use of health data for research, innovation and policy making, and how citizens can be empowered by easier access to their health data.
Said HIMSS EU Programing Director Petra Wilson: “The EHDS legislation represents a major step towards freeing data for use, but we need to work on building trust among patients. They need to be assured that their interests are properly respected, and we also need to build confidence among academic and industry researchers that the system will run smoothly and can be trusted.”
Health professionals will also engage with fellow community members at the European Project Meets HIMSS Communities pitch and network reception.
The reception would allow them to present a project, get feedback and actionable insights, and make connections to develop partnerships with a representation of the healthcare ecosystem brought by HIMSS communities.
“We listen to our stakeholders, and we’re very proud to be creating this momentum for European Projects to meet HIMSS Communities in a networking reception during HIMSS23 European Conference,” said Loida Lleonart, Associate Director, Strategic Relations, HIMSS EMEA. “A first of its kind, this event was created in the spirit of getting to know more about the initiatives that move us forward in Europe, of promoting exchange and fostering collaborations.”
