ICYMI: Protecting Patients and Data at the 2023 Healthcare Cybersecurity Forum

Top cybersecurity leaders convened at the 2023 Healthcare Cybersecurity Forum to explore strategies to fortify defenses, safeguard patients and defend against attackers. 

On Sept. 7 and 8, the forum hosted the foremost authorities in healthcare cybersecurity as they shared how to proactively shield healthcare’s expanding digital footprint and secure data while implementing cybersecurity measures that ward off malicious attacks and maintain patient trust.  

The forum featured dozens of industry visionaries including FBI agents Joelle Calcavecchia and William Scott O’Donnell; Eric Liederman, director of Medical Informatics at Kaiser Permanente; and John Riggi, national advisor for Cybersecurity and Risk at the American Hospital Association. 

Industry panels also featured revamped cybersecurity strategies to ensure resilience in the evolving landscape of sophisticated cyber-attacks. Terri Ripley, chief information officer at OrthoVirginia, shared recommendations around ransomware strikes, sharing their 18-month recovery process after a cybersecurity attack.   

Lee Kim, senior principal of cybersecurity and privacy at HIMSS, delivered a Cyber, AI and IP Regulatory Update, where she shared the latest changes in laws and regulations in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and intellectual property. Kim also discussed the legal implications around AI and cybersecurity.  

Attendees participated in networking luncheons, table talks and receptions with the healthcare cybersecurity community.
