Why should someone join the HIMSS-SIIM Enterprise Imaging Community? 

The community is a great opportunity to network with others who are interested in imaging informatics. The whitepapers and virtual learning resources are excellent, but the people are the best.

What is a collaboration that makes you proud? 

I am very proud of my community work developing two whitepapers: 10 Steps to Strategically Build and Implement your Enterprise Imaging System and Considerations for Exchanging and Sharing Medical Images for Improved Collaboration and Patient Care. I am also proud of my work on upcoming whitepapers focused on photo-documentation and visible light imaging.

What advice would you have for those entering the field of enterprise imaging?

Enterprise imaging is a very narrow domain of knowledge. Seek out peers and mentors in the greater community to help you advance your learning - these are the people who can help you move forward in your career.

What is one of the biggest challenges you’ve encountered? How did you overcome it?

My biggest challenge was acquiring the knowledge to develop an enterprise imaging program at my IDN. My memberships in SIIM and HIMSS have given me access to resources and people that have helped me build my knowledge and confidence. I have since built an enterprise imaging program in my organization that continues to grow.
