Multimillion Dollar Grants Awarded to Dr. Anne Snowdon, HIMSS Chief Scientific Research Officer

Anne Snowdon, Chief Scientific Research Officer at HIMSS, was recently awarded a total of $3.9 million CAD in grants to research Canada’s healthcare supply chain to improve health system capacity to manage COVID-19 and respond to future pandemics. 

Of that sum, Snowdon’s $2.5 million CAD ($1.9 million USD) Partnership Grant will help develop a community of practice to advance supply chain resilience, workforce sustainability and economic recovery in Canada’s post-pandemic future. HIMSS, the lead partner on Community of Practice grant, will support scalability of supply chain solutions and strategies across health systems worldwide, given the very global nature of health system supply chains.

Snowdon also received $1.4 million CAD ($1.1 million USD) from the Supply Chain Advancement Network in Health to research Canada’s healthcare supply chain. Her work will identify ways to improve the processes critical to managing COVID-19 and planning for future pandemics. The study is part of the Government of Canada’s investment of more than $109 million to support 139 research teams from across the country that will focus on developing, testing and implementing measures to mitigate the rapid spread of COVID-19. 

“This research will inform strategies to ensure Canadians have access to data to inform and enable public health prevention initiatives,” Snowdon said. “It will also ensure that Canadians can access safe, timely and quality care when and where it is needed if they become infected with COVID-19.”
