HIMSS: World’s First Stage 7 DIAM for Samsung Medical Center, South Korea

Samsung Medical Center in South Korea has become the first healthcare provider in the world to reach the highest stage on the HIMSS Digital Imaging Adoption Model (DIAM). The hospital has also earned Stage 7 on the HIMSS Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM). 

DIAM measures capabilities in medical imaging delivery, while EMRAM measures adoption and maturity of electronic medical records. 

The latest validations made Samsung Medical Center a triple Stage 7 HIMSS Digital Maturity Model certified hospital, adding to its Stage 7 HIMSS Infrastructure Adoption Model accreditation last year. Recently, the hospital also completed an assessment for the HIMSS Digital Health Indicator, its score topping all global health systems in 2022. 

HIMSS celebrates Samsung Medical Center as a world leader in digital pathology, with excellent use of structured reporting in multiple different specialties and a unique approach to clinical decision support (CDS) for radiology examinations. 

"This is the most comprehensive use of integrated digital pathology we have seen," praised Andrew Pearce, HIMSS vice president, analytics, and global advisory lead.  

The hospital was also lauded for its use of artificial intelligence in identifying patients who needed urgent medical care during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and its implementation of a text analyzer to ensure regular colonoscopies. HIMSS gave high marks for innovations such as the use of chemotherapy dispensing robots, the use of supply robots to maintain stock around the hospital and the use of predictive modelling through a Data-based Operation and Communication Center to optimize the allocation of medical resources and personnel.
